With the opportunity for strolling hand and hand around stately Georgian architecture, verdant Inverleith Park and the stunning Water of Leith with the contemplative St Bernard's Well, perhaps its no surprise that Stockbridge is a place where romance can be kindled, and kept.
But it's not just somewhere to soak in the outdoor atmosphere. Recently at Stockbridge Local we were delighted with the romantic stories that appeared when we posted nostalgic photos of places long gone.
Tiffany's- or Cinderella's, as many people fondly remembered it- that used to be on St Stephen's Street, revealed some fun, and some rather dodgy stories! But we're in the mood for love just now, and it's sparked much of this over the years.
Jill Devine met her husband at Tiffany's, and 37 years later they're still happily married. Hilary Williams, too, had her hen night there, but earlier, when her now husband was just a boyfriend, she recalls being stopped on the way in because he wasn't wearing a tie. Luckily a friend had a coat belt to lend him which did the job instead! With 42 years to their marriage, Tiffany's seemed to make lasting relationships.
The nearby Ritz Cinema, which closed its doors in 1981, brought back memories of sneaking in under aged (and being terrorised by horror flicks as a result), but it was also the place of a first date for Bertha Henretty, who went to see Saturday Night Fever. On the way there her date, driving her mini, pulled out beside a bus and damaged her car. Despite being dragged back to explain to Bertha's parents that it wasn't her fault, they've been married for 38 years.
Tiffany's and the Ritz Cinema may both be long gone, but there's still opportunity for romance in Stockbridge!
In the run up to the big day, make sure you're prepared. Pure Gray has a good selection of Valentine's cards, as well as lovely scented candles (how about a champagne and peony scent to get you in the mood?) in sweet heart shapes.
Brill Jewellery and Coffee are big on love and affection, from both understated to deluxe pieces on offer, it's got something for all romantic shoppers.
Purslane, The Scottish Food Awards Edinburgh Restaurant of the Year 2017, is another reason Stockbridge spoils us foodies. Enjoy here dishes such as Crab and Avocado Cannelloni with Prawn, Tomato and Chilli Mayo, pretty cool for sharing.
How about some pre-dinner drinks at Good Brothers Wine Bar? Wines from around the world can be enjoyed with delicious small sharing plates, making for an indulgent night out.
The Pastry Section is working it's usually magic for Valentine's. Choose from a carefully selected cast of treats in the theme of 'perfect pairings' to share with someone.
And don't unwittingly miss out on Tasti's Valentine's offer of a complimentary glass of fizz or wine with a £20 three course meal on selected days around Valentine's and on the night itself.
Another cool gift idea is to choose from the amazing Valentine's selection at Liggy's Cakes. Our favourites are the beautiful heart macaron cake, or the cheeky pants cupcake selection!
Savvy couples might take advantage of an early Valentine's dinner with Stockbridge Local's amazing Taisteal offer that will continue up until the end of February- with up to 50% off for two people, excluding 14 Feb.
And for something totally different, at Yoga's Got Hot you can treat your partner on 8 February to a half price Beginners Power and Nidra class.
If you're feeling like spreading your wings, Jimmy Martin Travel has many different options for a romantic getaway this year it's Italy's culinary capital, Bologna, where trendy couples are choosing to escape. Jimmy Martin Travel can put together romantic packages.
So, whatever your idea of romance is, Stockbridge has it covered.
